ובני ישראל למנינהון רישי אבהן ורבני אלפין ומאותא וסרכיהון דמשמשין ית מלכא לכל עיסק פלגותא דעילא ודנפקא ירח בירח לכלהון ירחי שתא פלגותא חדא עשרין וארבעה אלפין:
alpyn warbeh eshryn khda plgwtha shtha yrkhy lklhwn byrkh yrkh wdnpqa deyla plgwtha eysq lkl mlka yth dmshmshyn wsrkyhwn wmawtha alpyn wrbny abhn ryshy lmnynhwn yshral wbny
Now the children of Israel after their number, the heads of fathers’ households and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and their officers who served the king in any matter of the divisions which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year—of every division were twenty-four thousand.

על פלגותא קדמיתא לירחא דניסן ישבעם בר זבדיאל ועל פלוגתיה עשרין וארבעה אלפין:
alpyn warbeh eshryn plwgthyh wel zbdyal br yshbem dnysn lyrkha qdmytha plgwtha el
Over the first division for the first month was Jashobeam the son of Zabdiel. In his division were twenty-four thousand.

מן בני פרץ ממנא לרישא לכל רבני חילותא לירחא קדמאה:
qdmah lyrkha khylwtha rbny lkl lrysha mmna prts bny mn
He was of the children of Perez, the chief of all the captains of the army for the first month.

ועל פלגותא דירחא תנינא דאייר דודי מזרעית אחוח ופלוגתיה מקלות נגודא ועל פלוגתיה עשרין וארבעה אלפין:
alpyn warbeh eshryn plwgthyh wel ngwda mqlwth wplwgthyh akhwkh mzreyth dwdy dayyr thnyna dyrkha plgwtha wel
Over the division of the second month was Dodai the Ahohite and his division, and Mikloth the ruler; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

רב חילא תליתאה לירחא דסיון בניהו בר יהוידע כהנא ממנא לרישא ועל פלוגתיה עשרין וארבעה אלפין:
alpyn warbeh eshryn plwgthyh wel lrysha mmna khna yhwyde br bnyhw dsywn lyrkha thlythah khyla rb
The third captain of the army for the third month was Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada the chief priest. In his division were twenty-four thousand.

הוא בניהו גברא כל קבל תלתין ולעיל מתלתין ופלוגתיה עמיזבד בריה:
bryh emyzbd wplwgthyh mthlthyn wleyl thlthyn qbl kl gbra bnyhw hwa
This is that Benaiah who was the mighty man of the thirty and over the thirty. Of his division was Ammizabad his son.

רביעאה לירחא דתמוז עשהאל אחוי דיואב וזבדיה בריה אתמנא בתרוי ועל פלוגתיה עשרין וארבעה אלפין:
alpyn warbeh eshryn plwgthyh wel bthrwy athmna bryh wzbdyh dywab akhwy eshhal dthmwz lyrkha rbyeah
The fourth captain for the fourth month was Asahel the brother of Joab, and Zebadiah his son after him. In his division were twenty-four thousand.

חמשאה לירחא דאב רבא שמהות דמן זרעית יזרח ועל פלוגתיה עשרין וארבעה אלפין:
alpyn warbeh eshryn plwgthyh wel yzrkh zreyth dmn shmhwth rba dab lyrkha khmshah
The fifth captain for the fifth month was Shamhuth the Izrahite. In his division were twenty-four thousand.

אשתאה לירחא דאלול עירא בר עקש דמן תקוע ועל פלוגתיה עשרין וארבעה אלפין:
alpyn warbeh eshryn plwgthyh wel thqwe dmn eqsh br eyra dalwl lyrkha ashthah
The sixth captain for the sixth month was Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite. In his division were twenty-four thousand.

שביעאה לירחא דתשרי חלץ דמן זרעית פלן מן בני אפרים ועל פלוגתיה עשרין וארבעה אלפין:
alpyn warbeh eshryn plwgthyh wel aprym bny mn pln zreyth dmn khlts dthshry lyrkha shbyeah
The seventh captain for the seventh month was Helez the Pelonite, of the children of Ephraim. In his division were twenty-four thousand.

תמינאה לירחא דמרחשון סבכי דמן זרעית חושי לבית זרח ועל פלוגתיה עשרין וארבעה אלפין:
alpyn warbeh eshryn plwgthyh wel zrkh lbyth khwshy zreyth dmn sbky dmrkhshwn lyrkha thmynah
The eighth captain for the eighth month was Sibbecai the Hushathite, of the Zerahites. In his division were twenty-four thousand.

תשיעאה לירחא דכסליו אביעזר דמן ענתות לשבט בנימן ועל פלוגתיה עשרין וארבעה אלפין:
alpyn warbeh eshryn plwgthyh wel bnymn lshbT enthwth dmn abyezr dkslyw lyrkha thshyeah
The ninth captain for the ninth month was Abiezer the Anathothite, of the Benjamites. In his division were twenty-four thousand.

עשיראה לירחא דטבת מהרי דמן נטופה לזרעית זרח ועל פלוגתיה עשרין וארבעה אלפין:
alpyn warbeh eshryn plwgthyh wel zrkh lzreyth nTwph dmn mhry dTbth lyrkha eshyrah
The tenth captain for the tenth month was Maharai the Netophathite, of the Zerahites. In his division were twenty-four thousand.

חדסיראה לחדסר ירחא דשבט בניה דמן פרעתון מן בני אפרים ועל פלוגתיה עשרין וארבעה אלפין:
alpyn warbeh eshryn plwgthyh wel aprym bny mn prethwn dmn bnyh dshbT yrkha lkhdsr khdsyrah
The eleventh captain for the eleventh month was Benaiah the Pirathonite, of the children of Ephraim. In his division were twenty-four thousand.

תריסראה לתריסר ירחא דאדר חלדי דמן נטופה לזרעית עתניאל ועל פלוגתיה עשרין וארבעה אלפין:
alpyn warbeh eshryn plwgthyh wel ethnyal lzreyth nTwph dmn khldy dadr yrkha lthrysr thrysrah
The twelfth captain for the twelfth month was Heldai the Netophathite, of Othniel. In his division were twenty-four thousand.

ועל שבטיא דישראל לשבט דראובן נגודא אליעזר בר זכרי לשבט שמעון שפטיהו בר מעכה:
mekh br shpTyhw shmewn lshbT zkry br alyezr ngwda drawbn lshbT dyshral shbTya wel
Furthermore over the tribes of Israel: of the Reubenites, Eliezer the son of Zichri was the ruler; of the Simeonites, Shephatiah the son of Maacah;

לשבט לוי חשביה בר קמואל לבית אהרן צדוק:
tsdwq ahrn lbyth qmwal br khshbyh lwy lshbT
of Levi, Hashabiah the son of Kemuel; of Aaron, Zadok;

לשבט יהודה אליהו מאחי דוד לשבט יששכר עמרי בר מיכאל:
mykal br emry yshshkr lshbT dwd makhy alyhw yhwdh lshbT
of Judah, Elihu, one of the brothers of David; of Issachar, Omri the son of Michael;

לשבט זבולן ישמעיהו בר עובדיהו לשבט נפתלי ירימות בר עזריאל:
ezryal br yrymwth npthly lshbT ewbdyhw br yshmeyhw zbwln lshbT
of Zebulun, Ishmaiah the son of Obadiah; of Naphtali, Jeremoth the son of Azriel;

לבני אפרים הושע בר עזזיהו לפלגות שבטא דמנשה יואל בר פדיהו:
pdyhw br ywal dmnshh shbTa lplgwth ezzyhw br hwshe aprym lbny
of the children of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Azaziah; of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Joel the son of Pedaiah;

לפלגות שבטא דמנשה דבגלעד ידו בר זכריהו לשבט בנימין יעשיאל בר אבנר:
abnr br yeshyal bnymyn lshbT zkryhw br ydw dbgled dmnshh shbTa lplgwth
of the half-tribe of Manasseh in Gilead, Iddo the son of Zechariah; of Benjamin, Jaasiel the son of Abner;

לשבט דן עזראל בר ירוחם אלין רברביא שבטיא דישראל:
dyshral shbTya rbrbya alyn yrwkhm br ezral dn lshbT
of Dan, Azarel the son of Jeroham. These were the captains of the tribes of Israel.

ולא קבל דוד חושבנהון למבר עשרין שנין ולרע ארום אמר יי לאסגאה ית ישראל הי ככוכבי שמיא:
shmya kkwkby hy yshral yth lasgah yy amr arwm wlre shnyn eshryn lmbr khwshbnhwn dwd qbl wla
But David didn’t take the number of them from twenty years old and under, because Yahweh had said he would increase Israel like the stars of the sky.

יואב בר צרויה שרי לממני ית ישראל ולא ספק לממני עד דהוה על דא רוגזא על ישראל ומיתו במותנא ולא סליק ממנינא הי במנין פתגמי יומנא דלמלכא דוד:
dwd dlmlka ywmna pthgmy bmnyn hy mmnyna slyq wla bmwthna wmythw yshral el rwgza da el dhwh ed lmmny spq wla yshral yth lmmny shry tsrwyh br ywab
Joab the son of Zeruiah began to take a census, but didn’t finish; and wrath came on Israel for this. The number wasn’t put into the account in the chronicles of King David.

ועל תסברי מלכא עזמות בר עדיאל ועל אוריריא דבחקלא בקריתא ובכופרניא ובמגדלית יהונתן בר עזיהו:
ezyhw br yhwnthn wbmgdlyth wbkwprnya bqrytha dbkhqla awryrya wel edyal br ezmwth mlka thsbry wel
Over the king’s treasures was Azmaveth the son of Adiel. Over the treasures in the fields, in the cities, in the villages, and in the towers was Jonathan the son of Uzziah;

ועל עבדי עבידתא בחקלא לפולחנא דארעא עזרי בר כלוב:
klwb br ezry darea lpwlkhna bkhqla ebydtha ebdy wel
Over those who did the work of the field for tillage of the ground was Ezri the son of Chelub.
27
ועל כרמיא שמעי דמן רמתא ועל עבידתא דבכרמיא למרתפיא דחמרא זבדי דמן שפם:
shpm dmn zbdy dkhmra lmrthpya dbkrmya ebydtha wel rmtha dmn shmey krmya wel
Over the vineyards was Shimei the Ramathite. Over the increase of the vineyards for the wine cellars was Zabdi the Shiphmite.

ועל זיתיא ושקמיא די בשפלתא בעל חנן דמן גדר ועל משחא יועש:
ywesh mshkha wel gdr dmn khnn bel bshpltha dy wshqmya zythya wel
Over the olive trees and the sycamore trees that were in the lowland was Baal Hanan the Gederite. Over the cellars of oil was Joash.

ועל תורי דרען במישרא שרטי דמן שרו ועל תורי דבעמקיא שפט בר עדלי:
edly br shpT dbemqya thwry wel shrw dmn shrTy bmyshra dren thwry wel
Over the herds that fed in Sharon was Shitrai the Sharonite. Over the herds that were in the valleys was Shaphat the son of Adlai.

ועל גמליא אוביל ערבאה ועל אתנן יחדיהו דמן מרון:
mrwn dmn ykhdyhw athnn wel erbah awbyl gmlya wel
Over the camels was Obil the Ishmaelite. Over the donkeys was Jehdeiah the Meronothite. Over the flocks was Jaziz the Hagrite.

ועל ענא יזיז הגראה כל אלין רבני קנינא די למלכא דוד:
dwd lmlka dy qnyna rbny alyn kl hgrah yzyz ena wel
All these were the rulers of the property which was King David’s.
32
ויהונתן אחבוי דדוד מליך גבר סכלתן וספרא הוא ויחיאל בר חכמוני עם בני מלכא:
mlka bny em khkmwny br wykhyal hwa wspra sklthn gbr mlyk ddwd akhbwy wyhwnthn
Also Jonathan, David’s uncle, was a counselor, a man of understanding, and a scribe. Jehiel the son of Hachmoni was with the king’s sons.

ואחיתופל מליך למלכא וחושי ארכאה שושבינא דמלכא:
dmlka shwshbyna arkah wkhwshy lmlka mlyk wakhythwpl
Ahithophel was the king’s counselor. Hushai the Archite was the king’s friend.

וכד הוו צריכין למפק בקרבא מתמלכין באחיתופל הוו שאלין באוריא ותמיא מן יהוידע בר בניהו ריש סנהדרין אמרכלא דכהניא ומן אביתר כהנא רבא ומן דשאלין באוריא ותמיא נפקין לקרבא מזרזי חילא קשתיא וקלעיא וקלעיא ועליהון רב חילא די למלכא יואב:

After Ahithophel was Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar. Joab was the captain of the king’s army.
